Who We Are and What We Do
AWANA Clubs International is a nondenominational, Bible-centered youth organization that provides weekly clubs and programs to children age two through 12th grade. Here at Winn's Baptist Church, we offer AWANA clubs to children age two through 6th grade. New for the 2007-2008 club year is an official AWANA club for our 2 year old boys and girls. Called the Puggles, featuring a baby platypus, basic scriptural truths are taught in very simple terms that our youngest of AWANA clubbers can understand.
The goal of AWANA is to reach children with the gospel of Jesus Christ and train them to serve Him. AWANA provides programs, materials and training for more than 15,000 churches in over 109 countries around the world. Our goal at Winn’s is to provide a safe, structured and nurturing environment where your child can read and learn of Jesus from God’s Holy Word, develop lasting friendships, play games and have lots of fun!!
Where Did The Name Come From?
The acronym AWANA comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed (2 Timothy 2:15). “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
What Does My Child Do at AWANA?
Each AWANA club meeting is broken into three main segments*:
-
GAME TIME - Game Time offers fun through team competition. Every child participates in AWANA-created games giving them a chance to unleash his or her energy!
-
HANDBOOK TIME - Here the children work one-on-one with a trained Leader to complete assignments in their club handbook. AWANA emphasizes scripture memorization and understanding of key bible verses that show how to know God and walk with Him. A series of awards recognize their handbook achievements as well as their club and church attendance.
-
COUNCIL TIME — During Council Time everyone gathers together for announcements, award presentations and most importantly, a practical bible message given by our AWANA Commander or a special guest.
*This format is for the Sparks and T&T Clubs. The Puggles and Cubbies follow a similar, age appropriate format.
