Brief History of Winn's Baptist Church

Part of what has set Winn's up for such an exciting future is that we have an exciting and historic past.  We have the distinction of being founded July 4, 1776!  Because Virginia was Anglican by law, Baptist churches and preaching were illegal at the time.  The three founding pastors were all at one time or another beaten and/or imprisoned for preaching the gospel.  One of them was defended by a lawyer from our county named Patrick Henry.  The first regular pastor was a man named John Clay, who had a son named Henry Clay, who was a well known statesman.  We have been making a difference in this area or for parts of four different centuries and will continue to do so!
