Our staff is here to serve.  People are not an interuption to what we do, they are what we do!  We are committed to leading out in our various responsibilities in such a way that will represent Christ well.  We are here for those who are inquiring about our faith, are new to the faith or new to the church, as well as to those who are long-time members of the family.  Feel free to contact us; we love to hear from you!

Pastor Brauer came to Winn’s in August of 2001 with the understanding that the church wanted to honor the Lord and His Word by endeavoring
to really try to be and do all that is called for in God’s Word.  Pastor and church have been working together since then to do exactly that, and God
has blessed it.  Pastor Brauer brought with him experience from a variety of pastoral positions including 10 years of bi-vocational ministry
during which he worked for CSX Transportation while serving in pastoral capacities.  From those experiences he has developed a very practical
approach toward understanding and applying God’s Word which characterize his sermons.

Pastor Brauer considers 1 Peter 5:2&3, as his mandate for pastoral leadership.  “Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers,
not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain, but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the
flock” NKJV.  He tries to personally practice what he preaches and challenges those under his care to do the same.  Understanding that
Ephesians 4:11 explains that pastors are given to the church for “…the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the
body of Christ…” he uses the pulpit ministry and his example to equip the saints for service and together build the body of Christ.  Building the
body includes discipling Christians as well as reaching new people for Christ. He is very much a team player and a team builder, believing
that if the members of the church are living victory in Jesus, and working together, God’s desires will be accomplished!

He has been married to Cyndy since 1981.  She is a Registered Nurse, teaches middle school girls in Sunday School, and is
active in Women's Ministry.  They have two grown children, a daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren, who are all active at
Winn's.

Jeff came to Winn’s in August of 2003 after the Lord called him into full-time ministry.  Prior to that Jeff worked for 24 years in the oil and gas industry where he held numerous petroleum engineering and management positions.  His longest tenure (9 years) was at Dominion Resources right here in Richmond, Virginia, where he spent his last 4 years there as Vice President of Oil and Gas Operations.  God is using his spiritual gifts of administration and leadership, along with the skills he acquired in business, to assist Pastor Brauer in managing a vibrant, growing church.

Jeff’s call into ministry began in the year 2000 when at that point he began to take on various leadership positions at Grove Avenue Baptist Church.  He and his family moved to Texas in 2001 where God finalized his calling.  Through various pastors in Texas and Virginia and the leadership at Champion Forest Baptist Church in Spring, Texas his calling was affirmed and he was ordained into the gospel ministry. Jeff has a Master of Arts in Religion degree from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.

He was married on June 4, 1977 to Cheryl Chadwick, who serves as the Director of Children’s Ministries here at Winn’s.  They have two children, Jeffrey and Keith a daughter in law, Sarah and one granddaughter Adeline.  One of Jeff’s favorite Scriptures is Psalm 37:4-5: “Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.”  It is special to him because Jeff’s heartfelt desire for many years was to be in full-time ministry and the Lord has brought that to pass.

Doug was called to Winn's in September of 2011.  Doug served as the Associate Pastor of Youth & Children's ministries at Giles Creek Baptist Church.  Doug helped lead a chapter of Reformers Unanimous (a Christian discipleship organization) in the Rutherford County Jail, in Murfreesboro, TN for 2 years where he was able to preach and teach the Word of God, and counsel those who were incarcerated there awaiting trial.

Doug's call into ministry began in the spring of 2002, while he was a junior at Pensacola Christian College.  At the time he was studying both Marketing & Business Management, with plans to enter into the business world.  The Lord impressed upon Doug's heart to serve Him in a full-time capacity to preach the Gospel and disciple Believers.  Doug entered Pensacola Theological Seminary in the fall of 2003.  He completed his Master of Divinity degree in 2006.  Doug's calling was affirmed and recognized by Giles Creek Baptist Church in the summer of 2010 when they licensed him for the Preaching of Gospel Ministry, and ordained him a Southern Baptist minister in April, 2011.

Doug and his wife Kimberly have been happily married ever since their wedding day in June 2005.  They currently have 2 children: a daughter Avery and a son Caden with a baby girl on the way (December 2011).

One of Doug's favorite scriptures is 1Corinthins 2:9, "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." It means so much to him because, the Lord is so good and infinite in Grace, that He has prepared eternity for us that is going to be more magnificent than we could ever imagine.

Cheryl came to Winn’s Baptist Church in August of 2003.  She and her husband, Jeff, who serves as Senior Associate Pastor at Winn’s, moved here after living in Houston, Texas for two years.  Prior to that, they were members at Grove Avenue Baptist Church, in Richmond, Va., where she served as Children’s Director for over 6 years. The Chadwicks have two sons- Jeffrey and Keith, a daughter in law, Sarah and a granddaughter Adeline.

Cheryl has also worked as a Special Education teacher, instructing students of all ages with mental, physical, and emotional challenges.  Although working with special needs children has been very rewarding, Cheryl’s true desire is to answer God’s call to minister to children with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Ever since she was saved at a Billy Graham Crusade at the age of 10, Cheryl has had a heart-felt burden to share the gospel with other children and to disciple them.
Recognizing the extreme value of children to the Lord, and realizing the huge responsibility we have as a church for these precious little ones that God has entrusted to us, the following mission statement has been adopted for the Elementary Children’s Department:

“Our mission is to bring children into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, teaching them to know Him as Savior and Lord; and to love Him and obey His Word.”

To accomplish this huge mission in our present-day world takes much prayer and guidance from our Heavenly Father and also a partnership with the families of our children.  All of the programs in our department, such as Sunday School, Children’s Church, AWANA, WOW (summertime Winn’s on Wednesdays), Terrific Tuesdays, Vacation Bible School, the Fall Festival, the Easter Egg Hunt, the Family Christmas Breakfast, etc. are prayerfully planned to provide a well-balanced Children’s Ministry Department.

Understanding the importance of ministering to children, Cheryl feels very blessed and dependent on the Lord to serve in this area at Winn’s Baptist Church.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”  (Philippians 4 :13)

Kathy Rector, Director of Music Ministries PDF Print E-mail

Kathy grew up in Winn’s, so she has been involved in the music here one way or the other most of her life!  In 2001 she accepted the responsibility of being the Director of Music Ministries for the church.  As the church has grown, so has the scope and volume of her responsibilities.  The position became full-time in 2006.  Those responsibilities include oversight of all music within the church and personally leading the music at the 8:15, 11:00, and 6:00 services on Sunday, Vacation Bible School music, and all presentations by the Sanctuary Choir.  She also, working closely with the Sr. Pastor, has responsibility for the flow, content, and participants of every church-wide service.

She believes strongly that all that is done musically should always be all about Him.  Church music should proclaim and reinforce the Word, play an important role in creating a worshipful atmosphere, and help people to turn their hearts and minds from the things of the world in order to focus on the things of the Lord.  Because it is all about Him, she believes that all that is done for Him should be done with excellence; so she strives to maintain a spirit of excellence throughout the department.  She welcomes those who can sing or play musical instruments to get with her to see how they could get plugged in!

Kathy has been married to her high school sweetheart and fellow Winn’s member, Jeff Rector, since January , 1981.  Jeff teaches an adult Sunday school class on Sunday mornings and sings in the Sanctuary Choir.  They have four children,  Rachel, Travis, Taylor, Thomas and a beautiful daughter-in-law, Dianna, who married Travis in March of 2007.
Kathy's life verse is Proverbs 3:5&6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."

Mary has been a member of Winn’s Baptist Church since April 1980.  She was a teacher in the Preschool Department until January 1985 at which time God called her to be Director of Preschool Ministries.  Her responsibilities include making sure that our 9:30am Sunday School is covered with Christian volunteers who love God and devote their time to His children.  Our teachers help preschools begin to develop an understanding that Jesus loves them, which is our primary goal of teaching, and they communicate this love through Bible stories, bible phrases and verses, Bible songs and loving actions.  Mary also has the responsibility of covering nursery care for our babies, extended sessions for older preschoolers as well as Children's Church for our four year old's and Kindergarten classes during the 11:00am.  Her  responsibilities also include our summer program, WOW (Winn's on Wednesday), as well as working with the Director of Children's Ministries in planning the many events that take place for preschoolers and elementary children.

Mary’s goal is to reach more children through our Sunday School, Outreach Program, and various other children’s programs here at Winn’s.  Jesus said, “Let the children come to Me” (Matthew 19:14).

Mary and her husband, Bill, moved to Hanover County four years after they were married.  They have two daughters and four grandchildren. Mary was a Licensed State Day Care Home Provider for many years.  She is blessed that a lot of the children she took care of are still a part of her life.
